CABS & RIDESHARES:
I'm going to start out by talking about rideshares. As of this moment, out of all the cities I visited, I have not found one single rideshare that had a wheelchair accessible option. If you work for a rideshare company and have a wheelchair accessible vehicle, we would love to hear from you.
Now let's talk about cabs. In the smaller to mid-sized cities, forget about it. They just simply don't exist. If you are visiting a smaller city and need to get around, There is usually a paratransit company that works locally. Sometimes these companies will allow you a temporary account, as long as you have the necessary paperwork from your doctor stating you have a physical disability.
There are a limited number of wheelchair accessible cabs in the larger cities like Los Angeles. The problem with these are they are makeshift and weren't originally designed for wheelchair access.
For example, the floors are not lowered. In a bigger wheelchair like mine, it was hard to fit in one of these cabs. Not to mention I am tall, so in order to fit in one of these cabs, I had to recline my wheelchair quite a bit, which was very uncomfortable and bumpy. Cabs are usually our very last resort.
